Google Update Advice

Google is updating again. What should we do? You could read the 74 page thread on Webmasterworld or one of the other forums. I suggest you wait until things settled down and let the industry experts do some analysis.
Natasha Robinson from Threadwatch offers the best advice:
“The time that it would take to read those threads could be better spent figuring out a battle plan to help a client’s total online marketing strategy - (I can hear the gasps now “You mean SEO/SEM isn’t the only online marketing strategy out there”. lol) - so that ranking shifts aren’t a major detriment to your business.”
She is also printing some t-shirts that say “Stop Ya Whining and Do Something About It”
One thing I have learned since I started working full-time in this industry over a year ago is that there is no need to follow such long threads in forums during updates. Sure there will be a few great post and some very insightful comments. At the same time there will be a lot of noise and whining. Best advice is to let the updates take their course. Let the trusted industry experts figure out what changes took place. Then figure out a strategy for your site.
Updates happen - Rankings change - Nothing is permanent

I agree. Now I have to get clients to understand “Updates happen - Rankings change - Nothing is permanent”

There is nothing you or your SEO can do about the updates. So following it closely and complaining does no good. More than likely the update will hurt those that are trying to fool the system. Or so we hope. Now explaining it to the clients, that’s the fun part. :)
