Ask Customers to Help you Grow your Business (with Links)

December 26, 2005 | 1 comment

If you provide your customers with a superior product/service most will be happy to help you grow your business. All you have to do is ask. Here are some tips on getting clients and users to link to your website.

- Include a request in all outgoing e-mails, paid receipts, letters and shipments.

- Brick-and-Mortar businesses can easily print up business cards requesting a link. Hand them out to all your customers. For strictly online business include a few of these cards in each order.

- Ask customers to write a review in their blog about your product/service.

- Offer a discount or incentive on their next order to increase the response rate.

The trick is to let the customer know you are trying to “grow” your business. Everyone wants to be apart of something successful.

While my site is only several months old I already have many regular readers. If you find my site helpful I would appreciate it if you would help me grow my readership base with a link and recommendation. Thanks in advance!

That was pretty simple!

*Remember to vary the linking code you suggest to provide more natural linking patterns.

*You can order inexpensive business cards in small batches from http://www.vistaprint.com. They normally have an offer for 250 free.

[…] Justililien had a nice post about asking your customers to help you build your business with links. I really like the idea, and here’s why. The RETAIL value of something is what a consumer (link seller/ customer in this case) will be looking at. The wholesale cost is going to be anywhere from 20 - 75% LESS than what it is normally sold for. Giving a gift certificate in trade for links means that you’ll get that DISCOUNTED from the cost of your link acquisition. I’m sure there are LOTS of bloggers (or students perhaps?) willing to dole out some link love for a free gift certificate from your shop if it’s something they are interested in. Pay in gifts not in cash! It’s the best kind of online marketing strategy there is: simple and effective. […]
