Overlooked Link Building Opportunities

Often when people are link building they overlook some of the most obvious places to get links. Instead of thinking like an SEO, think like a marketer.

Here is an example. Do your customer service representatives ask the customer if they have a website? If they did they could quickly check the site to see if it was in good standing in the search engines (this can be automated). Then your customer service rep could offer the customer a discount for a product review or mention with a link.

“I can offer you 25% off this order or a future order if you would mention us on your site. We are trying to grow our business and want to get our loyal customers involved.”

Repeat this a couple times a week and watch your rankings increase. This is a lot less expensive than a link building campaign. Plus you are getting amazing word-of-month marketing.

In the SEO world, a backlink is a vote to your website; though in the real business world, it’s often bigger than a link - it represents good reputations to your service!

What an excellent idea! I’m going to work on putting this into action right now.

Good point Justilien. Too many SEOs only think about link building as a way to increase their “you know what”. Back in the day before there was a “you know what” links were critical as another way to drive additional qualified traffic to you site. It doesn’t matter what a site’s “you know what” is as long as it gets you more of those valuable visitors. And as a bonus it might even increase your “you know what”.

David - That is actually how I came into this industry. I was getting advertisements (links) to drive highly-targeted traffic. Then I noticed a surge in traffic from search engines. I was ranking in the top 3 for a housing market term in a major city.

I am glad to see times are changing and more SEOs are discovering that link development and marketing can be combined.
