Beach villas, houses, and condo are mostly available for rent by the week. Many can be rented by the month. If your an expat or retiree there are many deals to be made for long-term rentals.
Questions to Ask Before Renting
Renting a beach house, or villa, in Costa Rica can pose some interesting situations. It’s best to get the answers to this ahead of time. Anyone who has spent time in Costa Rica knows “don’t assume anything”
Beach Access
-Does the property have direct access to the beach, or is it just a beach view? Some beach homes are on the side of the mountain like in Manuel Antonio. Find out if you need to take a taxi, bus, or does the property provide a vehicle.
Speaking of Manuel Antonio beach there are only a 3 or 4 beach rentals with direct access. Contact me if you want the ones I recommend.
Caretaker and Emergencies
-Does the caretaker live on the grounds? If not, are they readily available by phone? What happens if something happens like a pipe busting. Make sure there is someone local to responded to such needs.
If you do not speak Spanish – make sure to ask if the caretaker knows basic English.
Security
-Is there a security guard on duty? Private security is very common throughout Costa Rica even in middle class neighborhoods.
-Is this a quiet area, or do neighbor beach houses tend to be partiers. Not everyone is in Costa Rica to enjoy the nature.
-What is the cancellation policy? Get it in writing.
-Deposits. How quickly will it be refunded.
