Top 10 Happiest Countries
Costa Rica comes top of the Happy Planet Index 2.0. Costa Ricans report the highest life satisfaction in the world, have the second-highest average life expectancy of the Americas (second only to Canada) and have an ecological footprint that means that the country only narrowly fails to achieve the goal of ‘one-planet living’: consuming its fair share of the Earth’s natural resources
From Sydney Morning Herald ,
A sociologist, Andrea Fonseca, said Costa Rica gives its citizens the “tools” to be happy, but cautioned that happiness could not be calculated just by looking at life expectancy and environmental practices

It’s because of the ignorance. The Chinese aren’t building a stadium for free. Does everyone know where all the tuna and shark fins are going? Taiwan built a bridge for us while cleaning out the ocean. Do you know who organizes the beach cleanups of all the garbage which washes out of the rivers? The extranjeros, that’s who. It’s the Ticos who throw the garbage on the ground, pollute the rivers and cut the forests. It seems as if 2 out of every 10 work in some kind of security, there is so much dishonesty engrained in their culture. We all know who breaks into the cars, it’s the guard himself. I have only met ONE traffic cop who could not be bribed in 16 years here. The law protects the criminals, not the victims. Who ever does these studies is working from an enchanted haze, not a reality of what goes on in this country. Yeah, they are happy. Happily ignorant of all the violence, thievery and dishonesty which is everyday life here.
