Playas del Coco
Playas del Coco, beach of coconuts, is a popular destinations in northwestern part of Guanacaste in the Gulf of Papagayo. Coco beach is known for it’s snorkeling, scuba diving, sports fishing, surfing and of courses vacationers seeking a relaxing time on the beach.
Beach
This gray sand beach is protected by horseshoe shaped bay making the waters very calm for the Pacific coast. Surfers charter boats to the infamous Witches Rock and Ollie’s Point. Nearby beaches include Playa Ocotal and Playa Hermosa
Time to travel
During high-season (dry) the Coco area can get crowded with both locals and foreign vacationers. With the number of condos owned by foreigners many stay for months at a time. There is also a fair number of expats living there year around.
During low-season the crowds dwindle making it feel like a semi-private beach community. Some evenings you can walk the entire beach, a 30-45 minute walk, and only run into 20-40 other people.

Safety
Even with the lack of people during the low-season (green) the area is very safe. The police station is practically located on the beach across from the main bus stop. Beach patrols on bike and vehicle are very common.
