Web Site Marketing Strategies – Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Viral Marketing

Todd Friesen (aka Oilman) tagged me on his blog. As did Alan Rabinowitz and Shimon Sandler. It seems SoloSEO is testing viral marketing with a tag game. It will be interesting to see the final results on the links and branding they gain.

As part of the tag game I am suppose to share 5 things about myself.

1) I attended the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts an experimental residential public high school. One of those places you compete to get into. I was the “fine art major” that did very well in the sciences. Even in 1994 the arts major knew how to use Unix and Xterms.

2) For college I went to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for advertising photography. After my third year, I decided I did not want to sell out my photography to Madison Ave (I would prefer to sell them internet marketing services!). I redesigned my major to include business.

3) I love books and reading. These are the last 5 books I have purchased.

Mister Paradise and other One-Act Plays by Tennessee Williams
The Iceman Cometh by Eugene O’Neill
The Pilgrimage by Paulo Coelho
Krapp’s Last Tape and other Dramatic Pieces by Samuel Beckett
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

4) I am an NPR and independent radio junkie.

5) I am a very private person ;)

Now I am suppose to tag 5 people. Finding 5 people that blog and have not been tagged was rather difficult in this industry. I decided to expand this tagging game to include some top marketers.

Nothing can beat a nice dark roast coffee, comfy couch and conversation at a coffee shop. Hopefully you have a wonderful New Years Rhea!

Just came across your blog from Lee Odden’s massive list and subscribed to the feed. Gonna check out the archives, looks like good stuff.

I also went to RIT. It was quite a depressing city weather-wise, and the school wasn’t too much fun either. On the bright side, I learned a whole lot and it prepared me for being a workhorse. The photo program is great there though! Hope you had some fun at least during your experience! haha

Hey Bartek – Yes the weather in Rochester can be depressing. Summers are great though! I spent a lot of time downtown (Java Joe’s, Park Ave, etc) so I had fun. RIT does really teach people how to work very hard and efficiently.

    What program were you in?

Oh, the summers were a whole of fun. I lived within 100 feet of a bar for the better part of 3 years off of Park Ave and Culver Road. And it’s within drunken walking distance of the strip of bars on Goodman/East Ave. Despite the bad rap I give the school and city, I still miss the good times and the people I knew that lived up and down Park ave.

I was in the Film/Animation program. I thought I was going to design video games and make Pixar films for a career, but around my senior year I decided to go out on my own, so now I do websites, graphic design, and 3D viz.

Wow we were neighbours! I lived on Brunswick and Park Ave. That area is such a great section of the city. So many good little indy cafes. I do miss it, just not the cold weather and snow storms.
